Homecoming Season and Pride, October 4 to 24
The Atlanta University Center's three homecomings overlap inside two weeks, and Atlanta Pride falls on the same weekend as SpelHouse Legends.
Spelman's homecoming week runs Oct 4 to 10. SpelHouse Legends, the Morehouse and Spelman alumni homecoming weekend, follows on Oct 8 to 11 with a bonfire, a day party, and a Sunday brunch. Morehouse plays its homecoming game against Savannah State on Saturday, Oct 10. Clark Atlanta's homecoming week runs Oct 11 to 17, with CAU Legends Weekend on Oct 15 to 18. A group coming for more than one of these ends up with staggered arrivals, which is easier to manage in one house than across several hotel reservations.
Atlanta Pride shares the middle weekend. The festival runs Oct 10 to 11 in Piedmont Park, from 10 AM to 10 PM both days. In 2025 the parade stepped off from Civic Center station, ran up Peachtree Street and east on 10th Street, and ended at Piedmont Park, so check the Pride site for the 2026 route and start time. SpelHouse Legends, the Morehouse game, and Pride all fall on that one weekend, so lock in those dates first if your group plans to be in town for it.
Georgia Tech closes the month with homecoming against Boston College on Saturday, Oct 24. North Avenue station is the closest rail stop to Bobby Dodd Stadium. In August 2025 the City Council voted to ban new short term rentals in Home Park, the neighborhood beside campus, so no new rentals can open in the blocks closest to Georgia Tech (GPB).
Plan on a short ride from any intown group home to the AUC. West End (Red and Gold lines) and Vine City (Blue and Green lines) both serve the campuses, and the neighborhood table later in this guide shows which lines run direct from where you stay.
For the organizer, one house covers the whole weekend: a place to get ready together, a kitchen for the morning before the tailgate, and a living room where the reunion keeps going after the game.
Thanksgiving Week: When Nobody's House Fits Everyone
If Thanksgiving means three households and a guest list nobody's home can hold, rent one house and let nobody be the host.
If you're deciding where to stay in Atlanta for Thanksgiving, expect a busy city. Atlanta's airport expected more than 4 million passengers across the 2025 Thanksgiving travel period (Nov 20 to Dec 2), with about 375,000 on the busiest day. AAA counted a record 81.8 million Americans traveling for Thanksgiving 2025. Its 2026 forecast comes out in mid November.
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, Nov 26, and the date never moves, so book the house as soon as your family agrees on who is coming, and before anyone books flights.

Once everyone lands, Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at the Atlanta Botanical Garden runs nightly from Nov 14 through Jan 10. Timed tickets are sold online, and the nonmember sale opens Oct 1. The Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon starts at 7:45 AM on Thursday, Nov 26, at Center Parc Stadium, so plan any downtown driving that morning around it.

SEC Championship and the Celebration Bowl, December 5 to 12
Two December Saturdays bring two different crowds to the same stadium, and both leave groups little time to book.
The SEC Championship is Saturday, Dec 5, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. NCAA.com lists a 4 PM ET kickoff on ABC, while the stadium's own event page still shows the time as TBA, so confirm it before you plan the day. The 2025 game drew 77,247 fans. The matchup isn't set until the regular season ends, so most fan groups book in the days after their team clinches. During the 2025 championship weekend, one downtown hotel reported more than 200 of its 292 rooms booked.
A week later, the Celebration Bowl kicks off Saturday, Dec 12, at noon ET on ABC. It is the HBCU national championship, played between the MEAC and SWAC champions, and the 2025 game drew 26,703 fans. For HBCU alumni who came home in October, it is a reason to come back in December, and the same group can book the same way.
Two MARTA stations serve Mercedes-Benz Stadium: SEC District (formerly GWCC/CNN Center) and Vine City, both on the Blue and Green lines. Riders from Inman Park/Reynoldstown or Edgewood/Candler Park stations ride direct. Red and Gold line riders from Midtown or Buckhead change trains at Five Points. MARTA ran special service for the 2025 game, so check its notice for 2026 closer to the date.

The Peach Bowl and New Year's, January 1
The Peach Bowl has the shortest planning window of the season, because nobody knows who is playing until Selection Day on Sunday, Dec 6.
The Peach Bowl hosts a College Football Playoff quarterfinal on Friday, Jan 1, 2027, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and the kickoff time is set after selection. That gives fan groups less than four weeks to plan a trip that runs through New Year's. If your team is in the running, build a shortlist of large homes before Selection Day so you can book the day the field is announced.
Know one booking rule before you search. Airbnb runs screening that flags large homes booked by one or two guests for a single night around New Year's Eve, and it blocked more than 20,000 US bookings over the previous New Year's period. Book the stay your group will actually take, with every guest named on the reservation and more than one night on the calendar. That way New Year's Eve dinner and game day morning happen in the same house.
One House or a Block of Hotel Rooms?
For a group of six or more staying more than one night, one house usually works better than a hotel block, because everyone gets shared space and the trip runs on a single booking.
Large group rentals put everyone in one place at the same time. Eight people in four hotel rooms means four locked doors, often on different floors, with no stove and no table big enough for the group. House Rules Every Group Should Read Before Booking

Blue and Green line neighborhoods ride direct to the AUC and the stadium. Red and Gold line neighborhoods ride direct to Georgia Tech and the AUC, then transfer at Five Points on stadium days. A few popular neighborhoods have no station nearby, so groups there plan on rideshare.
